Don't be surprised! The wonderful language which I say is not English. It is Vietnamese, a language I love to talk with my friend.
In class or anywhere I hear people use Vietnamese, I feel very very nostalgic. Vietnamese, my first language, my first friend which helps me communicate with my parents, friends ...
Is it right? how cool it is when u can talk with your friends in Vietnamese in school, in class, and make joke but nobody in your class can't understand what u and ur friends are saying ( It is the time I love Viet so much)
Oh, this is not the real reason I say Vietnamese is my favorite language.

It is really sweet if we know how to use it right. I mean speak it in right pronunciation and intonation. I like the way kids in America learning Vietnamese. They try to speak it right, but of course they pronounce wrong "_*. But, guess what, they learn the culture, and try to act Vietnamese. They give you a respect, and say " Dạ" instead of "Ừ"...... And I realize wow, Vietnamese is so wonderful, it give you a clue to know who people are speaking, and how they feel even though you just listen to a small part of this conversation.

Oh, there must be more. How about "Anh yêu em, or Em yeu anh." It is a way sweeter than only one way " I love you" ...

Just want to share with every body here, my feeling of Vietnamese after a few year try to learn English and suddenly realize that It would be very wrong if I forget learning more my tongue language.
What I can say is that I am proud of that I can speak, write, read Vietnamese!!!

I think you're living in U.S.A. of course Vietnamese is the best for us. But if trying to know clearly about a language, we'd realize the way that make this language special...so many foreign writers could make spectacular works....

Oh! One more I-love-Vietnamese-and-I think-it-is-best freak...like me! :so_funny:

Bro, I love Language, more exactly, Literature. Though I've learned a few of other languages, I still favor Vietnamese best! Hơ hơ, I wish I had read more and realised the importance of studying Literature because I have missed so much, so many years, hating Vietnamese and that damn-go-to-Hell Literature subject without any reason. Yeah, Vietnamese is music. Vietnamese is alive! Vỉetnamese is the purest part of a Vietnamese's soul! Praise for Vietnamese! (OMG, I'm talkin' like a Viet Cong politician :so_funny:)

Still, I have to learn English. And I love English as much as Vietnamese, too. Though not the same way. Each language has its own "beauty", right? :D

Long time no see, huh?! :D :D I'm still as crazy as the Oldy-Goody time. How about you? ^^

I think the special part in Vietnamese is the pronoun. The way we use "anh", "em", "cậu", "tôi"... makes it clear to the person that we talk to about our feeling, thought, and even point of view over that person or a certain someone. Many foreigners who learn Vietnamese find some trouble with the pronoun at the beginning. Sometimes, even the experienced one finds it difficult to determine which pronoun to address a person.

There are two kinds of people: 1. Live for their name; 2. Live for their benifit. ^^

If your friend had never been in a Brain-Draining Station of the ET (extraterrestrial) or Aliens or had never taken any kind of Drugs.........

There's nothing to be ashame, or shock, or hopeless, there's only the disappointment he has brought you, and me, and every Vietnamese! ^^ He is merely lost. ^^

@Cho_mot_tinh_yeu: First, I asked you how you were doing, then, without any "Fine, thanks", you asked me back if I was fine. Oh, bro, don't! I don't want to die laughing :so_funny: Yeah, I gladly with honor say to you: I am as crazy as the Oldy-Goody time! ^^

How are you? ^^ How is your summer? What have you done? What have you been through? :D :D I'm dying to know :D

it is actually stupid to try to or pretend to forget Vietnamese :rain:
I dont understand why some people would do these things. Take the Chinese people for example they learn chinese even if they are foreign-born; hence, the popularity of Mandarin Chinese nowadays. If Vietnamese could have thought this way, our language would be so popular. I actually think that the more languages you know the better. Let's face it, in the near future, you wont find a job knowing only 1 language. I envy European kid, because of their environment, they often grow up speaking 3 languages at least.
But most languages in Europe are very similar so that wouldn't be as amazing as someone who know 2 languages of different root. e.g. Vietnamese and English, Mandarin and English. The difficult level of a language is relative. It depends on our mother language.

In my opinion, Vietnamese is a wonderful language too because it's my first language. Also, I think Vietnamese is a hard language to learn bcuz there are many Vietnamese can speak English but not many American can speak Vietnmamese :D. By the way, I have met many Vietnamese people who refuse to be the Vietnamese. They try to act like the American and forget their culture.

Hi yo all, ^^
If you use "talking language" - which just let every one "know" what you are talking about without grammar or vocabulary corrections. It's Ok,just ignore my post.
On the other hand (I Have a Thumb:D j/k), If you care of the using English of yours, plz take time to check again the grammar and words in the sentences below:D
With fun! :D

Hì, thanks for correcting! ^^ Such a person who is good at English like you should do something to make some noises or bring this place alive, right? I have seen your posts several times but refused to ask for more, which I had better done.

You are too polite and considerate. Why should we ignore your post? :D :D Be cruel :D

Hehe, the quotation of my sentence...When I wrote it, I wondered if I should use Present Continuous or Present Simple. :D :D Now I know :D :D

-----------------------

@Cho_mot_tinh_yeu: Hừm, till now, I have only finished 5 books: The collection of full-achieved short stories - Oats Joyce Carol; The House of Thunder - Dean Koonzt; One door away from Heaven; Seize the night - Dean Koonzt; F*ck Logic - Swedish author. By the side, I'm reading History-Fiction: Hồ Quý Ly. :D :D Honestly, I was lazy. I usually skip over strange words, too lazy to look up in the dictionary though my book shelves are ful of awfully big and scary dictionaries -_-''. To sum it up: I have learned nothing much! :D

Here in Helsingborg, there is a (sucked) festival: Music, Dance, Food, Drink,... all over the streets. I hate crowded places...so I rather stay home than "torturing" myself through strings of people :D I'm going to an exhibition of Human Anatomy in Copenhagen -_-'' Hope it won't disappoint me 'cause I've been saving money for that >''<

This summer: I lost 2 of my good friends, I "over-done" the shopping, I sleep less than 6 hours a day and I have drawn a picture! Boring, huh? ^^

You don't mind if I raise some opinions, right? :D

1. There are many Vietnamese can speak English but not many American can speak Vietnamese:
- English is the international language, which means it's necessary, not only to Vietnamese but to everyone, especially the youngs.
- Why should American learn Vietnamese for? Excuse me, I love Vietnamese, but if I were a Swedish, or Chinese, or whatever, I would never learn Vietnamese. :D
---> Vietnamese isn't hard. I've seen some foreigners speak Vietnamese fluently. ^^ When you learn languages, the very first problem is...Enthusiasm! :D
2. People who act not the way they are born to be, well, don't get the simpliest fact: Monkey can't be Gorilla and Gorilla can't be Monkey :so_funny:

Hì, I can speak almost 4 languages, but still hungry for some more.

Yo, I'm list'ning to the Gorillaz: Feelin' Good Inc.

You haven't seen Vietnamese in foreign countries, at least Sweden - where I live, yet :D My first time in Sweden, I said "Hi, how R U?" to them, they didn't even respond, or smile, though I do know they had heard me said it. ^^ Well, at first, it was a shock stunning strange in my head. I was wondering if I looked too dull, too ugly so that they became afraid of...talking to me...As time passing, I realised that the problem wasn't and isn't my appearance (albeit I do look dull :D) or me...

^^...........

In group discussion or conversation, if there are only Vietnamese, I prefer to speak Vietnamese. if there are others who aren't Vietnamese, I prefer to speak in English. I don't want to make anyone in the group feel left out, I was in such situation in the past, and it doesn't feel so nice to be left out in a conversation.

Multiculture development gives us opportunities to learn many different languages. So, you can guess! However, industrialized countries, if you are living there, can also give us a limitation because of rushing to complete or to know everything which our brain capacity is to small for all things we like or love.

Sure, we have to manage our time for this or that... hihihihi, some people become stupid if they were pretending to "I just forgot..... vietnamese.... languages!" You should open your heart to take a dedicate appology !!!!!! for them.

Forgetfulness is not a creative mistake. Dónt you agree with me ?

don't underestimate your brain capacity :so_funny: the average human only use about 10% or less of their brains.
I've been living a multicultural life style, and I'm still doing it. I don't see myself ever forgetting any of the languages that I've learned.

Hi everyone,
In my situation, I have difficulty to remember some Vietnamese words. For example, some mathematical vocabularies or. I feel OK if someone tell me that he/she forget the right meaning of some viet vocabulary, but I don't think people who move to the other country when they ảre 10 or more can almost forget Vietnamese. But, somehow, the way people who live in different foreign countries speak Vietnamese quite different with others. Every Vietnamese community creates new way and intonation to speak Vietnamese. I remember, when I just came to the U.S, I got difficult to understand some words which people used.

Maybe, we may speak Vietnamese not as good as we used to speak in Vietnam, but it's wrong to say " I forget Vietnamese."

And I want to remind everybody that Vietnamese is a very rich language with many many vocabulary which we don't know, so don't think that you know very much about our language. Am I right?

Hiya!~
My situation is somewhat similar to Cho_mot_tinh_yeu's. It is pretty hard for me to maintain my native when I only speak approximately 4 hours during weekdays when I'm at home with my parents. Other times (exclude when we went somewhere), it's either English or Spanish.

I felt a little bit depressed because of my: mispronounciation, misinterpretation, and mispelled Vietnamese. I remembered one time I was eating Animal Cracker, when I picked up a camel I told my mom "Mom, con Đà Lạt"; My mom laughed and replied "Lạc Đà chứ Đà Lạt gì", that was hilarious, however it hurts a little.

I know a guy who came here for about 3 years, he told me he had forgotten "some" Vietnamese, I told him "You just immigrated for 3 years, how can you forget your native? I'm a citizen now and I still remember". The phrase "I forgot Vietnamese (my native)" has its simplicity raised to a level of a hypocrit and a fool (I'm sorry).

It seems a bit hard to look for Vietnamese friends outside who will speak fluent Vietnamese (I know one)without using any profanities in their normal conversations. I felt very lucky that I found a place like HHT, it would and probably will be my Vietnamese school. I also attempted to play Vietnamese servers online games such as: MapleStory, VLTK, Gunbound, even MU and etc. The results didn't come out quite as I expect it would since players write in a language only "they" would understand. For example: In MapleStory, a guy came to me and asked "ban rb bn rui co hs ko, hep res minh dzoi", I thought to myself "what?", then I translate it slowly in my head "Ok, so it actually is [bạn reborn bao nhiêu lần rồi, có chiêu hồi sinh không? Giúp mình revive với]."

That, my friends...Is what I know of our beautiful and rich language - Vietnamese. Don't just simply say "I forgot Vietnamese" because you lived in another country for no-matter-how-long. I believed that since it's our "native", it should be in our heart and by saying "I forgot", you're not just boasting about your unintelligence and your lack of knowledge, you're also lying to yourself.
