there are many passive problems in education system in Vietnam.
what do you think about them?
and what should we do ?
as a student ,what do you think about the student's suffering from exams?

I agree that in Vietnam, the education system is very limited and students don't usually get to experience interesting life-wide activities to further understand the things they learn in the lessons and to have better utility of their knowledge. Even though the schools provide good teachers with great teachings (lol no offense but someone highly doubt this) and more than enough extra-classes, students do learn a lot from them, somehow they don't really get to learn some very important techniques in life, like time management or communicating skills...

Well.. I was a nerd before, the kind that when you saw you would immediately shout out "Gosh, get a life!".. <== living proof for what I've just said.

I don't think we can do much about it.. things need time to change. We can't say no body's trying hard to make it better.. it's just that to fully develop the whole education system in Vietnam into what can be thought of idealistic.. or just appropriate (<-- seems to be a better choice of words), there will be a need of capital and it's quite time consuming.. Also, people don't like to get things changed after a long period of time, even if it's for the better.

I don't know.. maybe things will get better one day at a time.. :D:D

uhm huh... i think that teachers should be resspect to students more... like be nice to them and stuffs... becoz from what i know when i still in vietnam... many teachers hated their students... and like... they hits students alot that make students don't wanna be serious in learning.... and the learning style should be change too... bcoz no one will be able to memorize everything they wrote dơwn or they suppose to memorize... like in the US.. we dun have to memorize nothing... just understand the meaning of it.. then we'll be fine... but in vietnam... we do.. have to memorize like from word to word... that is suckk.... :chayle:

this type of education is everywhere in Asia, even in Taiwan, japan, korea. most are just hand down and absorb. Students have very little experience on learning independently. Honestly, I used to believe that the US education system is messed up... but then i realized, i left vietnam with the eyes of "Nguyen Du and Nguyen Gia Thieu Students", they are both amazing schools. So i used to believe that vietnam is much better. but then i found out, outside of those 2 middle school, most other schools in vietnam are struggling in teaching their students. American education promotes independent study, giving students experience, and they let students choose their own path of life by letting them choose their courses. like if you're going to be a musician, then calculus wont be used, so what's the point of learning that. Or if you're going to be a physical therapist, i dont think you'll need to learn about calculus, or journalism, .... "I have to bend my patient at certain angle of cos and sin or my patient will die" :so_funny:

And i WAS a nerd back then. after i left vietnam, i turns to more like Asian Metro Punk.... not the dumb one though, just a little trouble maker that's all... is that bad or good? :thatall:

actually, The vietnamese students, or Asian students in general, we learn faster wherever we are. Not because of the school, but because of our culture, our family environment, most of the asian parents are very serious when it comes to schoolwork....

BTW, today is practically the worst Christmas of my life :timvo: . My first Christmas in Taipei is a complete failure, my counselor made me go to this meeting with all of the "big guys", which made me late for Ice skating with my friend, tried to ran there fast but they're gone already . Firstable: The teachers have no respect to the students => That's worst of the worst thing!!! I'm strongly dissagree with the way the teachers look at the student, kind of: U R nothing!!! I'm the one who know much more than U!!!

Second: The education is nothing more than what it's written in books => No practising => All we learn becomes forgotten easily!!! And we don't know either how we could use our knowledge into the real life, the life that we R going to face with in future!!!

Third: We, the students, R afraid of raising hands and say what we think, what we know => Very negative way for learning stuff!!!

*_*
I wish i can go back to Vietnam too!!!
Country....
No where is as good as our own country!!!

to tienu: I don't think there is such word as "firstable" but I think there are "first of all" and "firstly" :D

Well, not ALL of the teachers have no respect for students, what you said is "vơ đũa cả nắm". Some teachers DO respect their students, but somes dont. They respect their students because the students are good in class, being nice to everyone, etc. But why would the teachers respect their students if they dont recieve respect from their students? It's not the students' or the teachers' fault. If you want to gain something, you have to give it to gain it. It's also your attitude toward the teachers.

Yes, education is nothing more than what's written in the books, but without the teachers explaining, would you be able to understand what's in the book? Well, some of the stuff, you can easily read &understand it right away, but some of the stuff you actually need help. No practising? What do you mean no practising? We all practising by doing it and learning it from the teachers. Well, as you said, how could we use our knowledge into real life? Okay, so if you dont go to school &learn math, no one teaches you anything, would you be able to do the calculations? Without going to school &learn abc, spelling, grammar, punctuations, etc.., would you be able to read? That's just some examples. We didn't even through half way of our lives yet, how do you know it's not important, and how are we gonna use this in the future?

It depends on the students, how shy or not shy the students are. Not all of the students are afraid of raising hands &say what we think or the answers are. It's not the pressure that teacher put on the students, it's up to the students wether or not he/she want to put up his/her hands. They cant force students to put up our hands. It happens everywhere in the world, in every single schools, it's in every students, not just in Vietnam.

Well, I'm just replying from my point of view. I know education in Vietnam is bad but why Vietnamese students immigrated to other countries, they all success at a point in life, better than other students? We can't always blame teachers for everything, look at yourself first before blaming others. The only one thing that I disagree is that Vietnamese teachers hit the students like there's no tommorow.

@<33: First of all, thank U for corecting that mistake, I know I can't perfectly English!!! ^^

Well, I did NOT mean that what I've written here is happening everywhere...

At the first point, I agree with U...
Of course, if U want to have a good environment in your class, teachers and students have to respect each other too!! Teacher must listen to their students, know how they feel and understand the characteristic of this weird age in Junior high school and High school....

But why would the teachers respect their students if they dont recieve respect from their students? (<= Trích) => Totaly wrong!!! It's just make things go worse... If we keep this unrespect-situation and being rude with each other => It's gonna happen 4ever!!! Why don't teacher, the one who understand more and know more than their pity lity students, tries to respect and be nice ( but not afraid ) to that naughty child first, and we see how things going next...

I know, teaching is a very speciel-hard art, and the teacher is a artish...
And it's super hard to every teacher to create a perfect nice-and-réspect-each-other class...
And I still look up every singel try of the teacher, not blaming on them at all for the bad education in VN...

At your second point:
Of course, we, the students need teachers and school to understand how things work...
If we can perfectly evrything, which it's written in the book, so why should we go to school then???
Math, Liturture => we pratise this every day. The No practising I meant here was in Chemical, Physique, History, Geography, Biology.... Maybe I have never bêen in any Chemical lession in Vietnam, but I still know that we just learn to count, to caculate the Balanc of atoms or some kind like that => Caculate more than practising in Chemical, the subject that we need to practising more than caculate.
In biology...
I've bêen with a true Biology class here where I live. And it was a perfect lession!!! Everyone is reponsible for what they've done and they respect and listen to every singel idea from each other!!! We were in a little forest and looked at sponges. Then we took few of them home and look closer to them with the microskop. When we learn about Economy in the Nature Life, we work in group and make a big school wall chart. We collect leaves, bird's feathers and everything....

=> It comes easily to remember the stuff in books and we learn them by heart directly while we R having lession!!! => No homeworks!!! ^^

At the third point:
I agree with U too!!!
But...dont U see that it happens in VN a lot more??? Not every students, but almost of them... Maybe the students in VN should (<= or must have started for long tim ago) start to saying what they thinking, how they feel about the lession, what they know ( extra!!! ) in this area which we R learning about...
And one more thing, the students in VN ( NOT everyone!!! ) R afraid of being called Stupid => They refuse to ask the teacher to come again!!! => Totaly lose the controll over the lession!!!

And at the last point:
The vietnamese students (<= Most of them anyway) all suceed in life, just because they've beeing trained too much about learning extra (<= or reading books more anyway!!!) + the good conditions in other country => Easily suceed!!! ^^

I know, VN has to try a lot in our education....
Maybe we just have to spend a little more money for the practising in thosé subjects that I've named previously!!!

P/S: If the education in school is soo perfect, why should the students in VN have to find somewhere else to learn again, or learn before the stuff in books???

Thanks for replying me!!!
I just say what I think, maybe U'd misunderstand me in few of the point earlier in my previous cm...But it's fun to know about what other thinks about the education in VN too ^^, as a teacher view like yours (<= I just guess, not sure ^^)....

Well you see, I'm not even gonna bother replying all of the things that you replied to me cause it's too long &I cant type so much today ^^ But yeahh, you see, sometimes I think like you too, I always say oh why do we even go to school bcause in the future, we're not gonna use it anyways. But you gotta put yourself in the teacher's shoes before talking. I've always wanted to be a teacher before, but now.. that I look back at all of my teachers, some of them, the students respect them so much, because why? Yes the teacher listen to their students, listen to their point of view, being respectful to their students, etc. But I think what you're trying to say is in here, wherever you live now. You have to understand one thing is that.. why teachers in vietnam are like that because of our culture, our backgrounds. If you put yourself in a teacher's shoes, they always come to class late, giving you attitude, why would YOU give them YOUR RESPECT?

Vietnam is becoming better &better over years. Our country is not rich, we can't spend too much money like that. In US, Canada and some other countries, we got money to pay for a lot of stuff because we pay taxes, in VN, we dont pay taxes.

For education, no where in the world is perfect, you just gotta find a perfect school, a perfect education for YOURSELF.

Of course, the people R influenced by the country's history, culture and our background just like U said ...
And of course, I've also always wanted to be a teacher in VIETNAM too, to help students changing their point of view or at least, I just want to make them smile, to make partners in class understand each other a little more, to make them love going to school and learning stuff ....
¨That's true!!! I'm not lying to U anything ^^

I know, the teacher in Vietnam has a lot of pressure in life, especially the female teacher. Family, making plan for the lession of the next day, housework, cooking, taking care of the children... and thousands of other unknown-named works => That leads to the stressful mind and teachers bring it to the class ...
Not everyone is perfect, not me either ^^, we can make mistake sometimes and that's forgiveable...if we say sorry to everyone and try to show them that we regret truely!!!
But, the teachers, when they've said something wrong to the student, which might insult them badly, not every teacher could say that simple, but so beautiful, word ''Sorry''...because they look up, or too ashame of theirselves too much, and then they think '' I know I've done wrong...But why would I say sorry for ???''

By saying ''Sorry'' or ''Thank U so much'' or ''Yes, I'm still listening your story'' or '' Oh, R U feeling bad ???''.... It shows the teachers care and full of respect to the student ...

''If you put yourself in a teacher's shoes, they always come to class late, giving you attitude, why would YOU give them YOUR RESPECT?''

I don't really understand what your point is here...
Did U mean, if I become a teacher one day (<= that's for sure ^^), one of those in the class gets late for the early lession, I'd ask them why he/she was late...
First time: Ok, U can go back to your seat (smile^^), but not next time!!!
The second time: This is the second time U R late (smile ^^), I want U to not be late next time...
The third time: Ok, why don't we have a little nice conversation with each other about your very-often-late situation at the end of the class ??? Go back to Ur seat and let's continue the lession ...(still smiling^^)

And then, I'd take it again, short and fast, so he/she doesn't lose the controll ...

If they give me attitude, I am willing listen to them!!! ^^

But maybe, it's not as easy as I've imagined ^^. Who knows ???

I understand that our country is not rich. But why it costs so much to go to school??? My mom and pap had to work really hard to earn enough money for me going to school. I know, the teachers and everyone who works for school have to be paid too...
But, the other richer countries help us a lot of money...Where's all that money they've given us to make schools better ???

And of cousre (<= the last one ^^), I've always respect the teacher. I've been class leader for 7 years and I've always been good (<= I think anyway) and respectful to the teachers. I've never said anything bad to the teachers and they trusted in me totally!! ^^
But one day, when our English teacher scouted one student, which was not my friend, and insulted him badly, I couldn't say any words to protect him and then I was mad at myself. (<= 'till now ^^) Why couldn't I stop her??? Why noone stop her saying those hurt words???...

I hope the teachers in vietnam, one day would become better.
A little more psychologish maybe!!! ^^
Respect, reponsible, a little modest, psychologish and calm => A perfect teacher!!! ^^

Am I asking too much ??? - Yes, I am ^^
But I think, one day, Vietnamese teacher could be like that!!!

Tired of reading my cm now ??? ^^

Hehehe, life is not always easy, is it :D

Things are not always the same as you think/imagine it. You have to experience it to understand how someone feel. I know teachers sometimes are really mean, yes, they insult their students, it happens almost everywhere, but it also depends in the teachers too. But there're reasons to everything right? ^^ And we dont know what the reasons are, but as we look at it, at a different point of view, we'd take it seriously &be rreally really mad :D I know it's easy to be calm, to be nice, but when it really comes to the point that it bothers you, that's when you'll blow up.

Sorry doesnt mean a thing, it's just another word, but you gotta SHOW in actions that you're truly sorry for what you've done.

When someone give you attitude, you can't always be nice to that person, because it's gonna happen more and more and more :D

I don't know, you need have a lot of patient to be a teacher.

Yeah, I think the education system is not so good too. When I was in Vietnam, I was quite good in math, but I

could only do the ones that I've been taught. I could not think for myself, and struggled a lot with a new problem. Ever

since I went to America, the education system here has changed my way of thinking. I become more active in critical

thinking, and improve singificantly not only in math but also science like chemistry and physic. However, I think that it

is not only a matter of teaching, it's also a matter of money. You see, many of the public schools in Vietnam don't

have enough money to provide the educational opportunities like here in America. And I quite agree that the way they

teach in Vietnam, well, to be frankly, is just like stuffing things into the students' heads. However, those skills I

learned in Vietnam are not necessarily useless. I can use those again when I go to college because pretty much from

what I heard, it's the pofessor just going on and on and the students take note and then study for themselves. Plus,

the students in Vietnam are more respectful to the teachers and people than the students here on accounts of the

strict teaching and the valuing of morals, manners and ethics in Vietnam. Nevertheless, if we talk about education and

math and science, etc., it's all about critical thinking when you go out to the world and face real problems, not just sit

there and repeat all the procedure. You see, in fifth grade, to answer only one problem, it takes like two or three

pages already, and many of the steps are needless.

Hehe, U may have missed few of the things which I've written...
I wrote: Mistakes are forgiveable if we say sorry to everyone and SHOW that we regret truely... ^^
Of course, Patient is also important!!! ^^
Don't know if I can go back VN and work, mum and dad want me to stay here and become a doctor or some kind like that...
Althought they cannot decide over my life, but they have quite lots of influence on me....

Qui nho has right!!!
I don't know how the education system in USA is...
But here, where I live, we have a quite good system, equipments for teaching and experience, teachers...and everything ^^ Thanks God!!! ^^

I don't know if my opinions about teachers and school in Vn R too....some kind of...too bad.
Maybe I have been taught by Super Strict and Disagreeable (<= not all of them^^) teachers, so I have no good point-view about the teachers...^^ (Except one!!! He was the greatest teacher of the greatest!!! ^^)

I think I could (<= not can, if U understand what I mean here^^) be a good teacher...
I'm hardly ever get angry...
I'm a good listener ^^...
I'm quite psychologish...(<= Not sure, everyone says so ^^ I cannot understand myself sometimes ^^)

Whatever....
Everyone who is Vietnamese always hope our own land will improve in the future!!!
Especially the education, the hospital and the trafic....

Thanks for replying and spending time read my (super boring^^ probably) cm ...
I'm really learning a lot of english on this website^^

Why don't U ask everyone...What the bright side of the education in Vietnam is ???
I think We'll receive a lot of interesting answer from every where!!! ^^

Ok, I become tired of talking 'bout teachers in VN. It may need years to teachers to accept being a little lower than students -___- or, whatever ^^...
AND: I*M NOT BLAMING ANYTHING ON THE TEACHERS 'BOUT THE BAD EDUCATION IN VIETNAM!!!!

I think teachers shouldn't take students's money in order to teach them "what problems are going to be in your next quiz". Teach them what they need to know and what's best for them

American Education System is good. It reflects your real life. You feel free to say or write most of things you want. Not too much pressure, but it requires you working a lot especially if you are in college. Also, Each district or school has it own way of teaching.

I left high school for several years, so I should not say anything about it. Maybe you are very excited with the new education system because it gives you opportunities to create your future, but don't forget everything has it own goods.
